Better Traffic Navigation of a Smart Car

By | March 7, 2014

Every driver faces challenge to go through heavy traffic. But you need to overcome the challenge. Manufacturers have come up to incorporate technologies that could help their customers to meet the challenge heavy traffic, they have come up with innovative technologies. With the help of these technologies, driver can peacefully steer through the dense traffic conditions with much ease.

Auto lane keeping
Auto lane keeping is technology that senses the lane the car is adhering to and tries to keep the vehicle in that particular lane. This is very helpful in coordinating the traffic in order to avoid traffic jams and maintaining a smooth flow of traffic.

The radars and cameras always watch out for the lane that the driver is following. The images of the camera are digitally processed by the computer of the car and projects a path for driver in case the lane is not visible due to some reasons. Alternatively the vehicles can take few auto corrective steps to place the vehicle back in lane if it is trying to get out of the lane thus leading to a safer journey and better traffic management.

Blind spot detections
While taking over, taking a turn or parking, there are a lot of blind spots that a human eye do not have access to. To overcome this limitation, the vehicles are equipped with cameras and radars on the blind spots were the human eye do not have access to. So while taking curves or parking a vehicle, the driver can always check for the correct amount of clearances with the help of AR windscreens or a LCD display. Apart from this, the system itself can give the indications of the approaching traffic or the obstacles that are in the way.

Clearance notification systems
This system uses radars, sensors and cameras to calculate the clearance that the vehicle is having from vehicles and other objects around. The system can calculate the distances from the obstacles that are in the direction of motion of the vehicles. The system raises an alarm in case the obstacles are in sufficiently close proximity and it can apply the brakes automatically if the clearance reaches to dangerous limits. Alternatively the vehicle can go for change of course also if it is safe to do so.

Vehicle to infrastructure interactive systems
These systems are marking their place in some cars that are available in the market now. With the help of this technology, the vehicles can sense the traffic signs and signals from a distance and can replicate them on the dashboard or AR windscreens. The vehicles can be programmed to respond to these signs also like stopping at a red signal.

This approach can in future lead to a better traffic management systems with the vehicles communicating with each other and the infrastructure like traffic management systems. The interaction will lead to the systems suggesting alternate routes to avert high congestion traffic as to measure to coordinate traffic.

The smart vehicles with smart technologies is a worthy tool for steering clear of traffic on roads resulting in coordinated and organized traffic for a hassle free driving.
